MA Governance Round 3

Round 3 of the MA Governance Initiative is now open for applications

The deadline for submissions is May 25, 2021.

In 2019, during the IPPF Reform, numerous MAs raised concerns about the quality of national level governance. To address this, the independent Governance Reform Commission recommended the creation of an MA Governance Strengthening Program.

The program was launched in May 2020 with high levels of interest. The Secretariat is now opening a third round of the popular initiative.

How to Apply?

Any IPPF Member Association can apply to join. To do so, you should simply download the background information and application sheet in one of the four IPPF languages; fill it in and then return it to magovernance@ippf.org using the subject heading “Governance Support”.

If you want to know more about the programme, you can read about round 1 and 2 below.

Round 1 Pilot

The first round of applications closed in May 2020. After an open process, a total of nine MAs were selected for particpation in the 18-months process. They were: Cameroon, Denmark, India, Malaysia, Mozambique, Pakistan, Palestine; Sri lanka and Uganda

The program involved two phases:

  1. An analytical phase, which evaluates the existing MA governance;
  2. A development phase, during which MAs receive tailored support based on the evaluation.

Learning from the experience of the selected MAs will be documented for the benefit of all MAs and for future governance review and strengthening processes.

Round 2

The second round of the initiative added a further six MAs to the programme, coming from a diverse set of countries: Afghanistan, Indonesia, Fiji, Mali, Morocco and Nigeria

The organisations have a variety of different governance models and operate in vastly different contexts. All , however, had an expressed interested in improving or reforming their governance.

On Wednesday 24 March 2021, the group engaged in a webinar, in which they discussed the main principles, phases and processes of the initiative.

IPPF Board of Trustees Chair, Kate Gilmore and IPPF Director General, Alvaro Bermejo attended the start of the Session. You can listen to their inspiring key note speeches in this recording: MA Governance Key Note Addresses
